event we offer the following optional extra activities
for you to choose from. All optional activities are
situated within half an hour’s drive of Rainbow
Glen and transport can be arranged should you wish to
travel as a group.

Boat trips on the Breede
River
Join us for an idyllic river boat trip, offering safe
swimming from the Breede River Goose Boat or shore (bring
your swimming costumes and towels). Try your luck at
catching The Big One (Bass fishing in abundance) or
just enjoy the company of your friends and colleagues
as you watch the kingfishers and fish eagles. Refreshments
are available and food/snacks or even a braai can be
arranged for your group on board the boat. Or do things
differently and go wine tasting by boat!
The world famous Montagu
Tractor Trip
These trips are on Wednesday and Saturday (large groups
can be accommodated on other days of the week except
Sunday). The tractor will meander its way up the Langeberg
Mountain to an altitude of 1500m above sea level. On
the way you will have a bird’s eye view of the
Koo Valley and once on top, you can look down into the
Robertson Valley below. A quick stop at the mountain
hut for a welcome surprise before you’re on your
way down again.
Wine Tasting Tours
The Breede River wine valley has over 50 welcoming wineries
all within an hours drive from Rainbow Glen in Montagu.
The wineries to be visited include those in Ashton,
Bonnievale, Montagu & Robertson. Most are in beautiful
surroundings (some overlooking the Breede River) and
picnic lunches with wine- tastings can be arranged.
Montagu’s Hot Springs
The miraculous healing powers of this natural 43 degree
Celsius hot spring are well known. We will arrange entry
for you as a day visitor to enjoy the hot pools and
fun slide. Beauty treatments and massages can also be

Guided Hikes
All hikes depart from Rainbow Glen as the nature reserve
is on our doorstep. David will lead your group on the
easy and flat, but very scenic 2.5km walk through Badkloof,
following the Kingna river to finish at the Hot Springs
swimming pools (takes approximately 1 hour). After a
well earned soak, transport will be arranged to take
the group back to Rainbow Glen.
Alternatively if it’s a full day
hike that you crave then we will depart after breakfast
and make our way up the indigenous forested slopes of
Bloupunt to an altitude of +-1200 meters. This is a
full day hike (taking approximately 8 hours) and packed
lunches and tea breaks will be provided along the way
as well as the opportunity to swim in the 3 natural
waterfalls that we pass. Animals to be seen include
dassies and klipspringer antelope aswell as a variety
of bird life including the large Vereaux's Eagle (Black
Eagle).
A 2nd day hike can take you out on the
Cogmans Kloof trail, which also passes through some
impressive mountain scenery and takes approximately
4-6 hours.
Some
beginner rock climbing can also be included into the
hikes if you wish.
Affordable guided game
drives in Klaasvoogds Game Reserve
Nestled in the foothills of the Langeberg Mountains
the Klaasvoogds Game Reserve is approximately 800 hectares
in size. It features vegetation that is endemic to the
region and more than 10 different types of indigenous
antelope as well as a large number of birds and other
animals. A guided game drive by a knowledgeable and
enthusiastic game-ranger in an open-top vehicle for
your group costs R350 per person and lasts +-2 hours
including a refreshment stop.
Golf Tours
Enjoy your round in true “country club”
fashion amongst breathtaking mountain scenery and nature.
Golfers used to playing on very busy courses are particularly
struck by the relaxed and unhurried atmosphere to be
found here. Golf can be arranged at either the 9-hole
Montagu, Swellendam or Bonnievale golf courses or at
the 18 hole Silverstrand Golf Estate at Robertson.

Wine
Course
Come and stay at Rainbow Glen in Montagu for a 2 night
fully inclusive Wine Course for novices and experts
alike. Learn about the different varieties from local
winemakers in a simple to understand and unpretentious
way. Spend a day working through the theory (with tastings)
at Rainbow Glen and the 2nd day out in the field sampling
the delicious “liquid of the gods”. Transport
is provided.
River Rafting Route 62
Recently opened is an exciting new section of river
in the heart of the Breede River Valley. The trip is
about 12 km long and meanders down, passing some of
the beautiful wine estates in the valley. The bird life
is incredible, in quantity and variety, and there is
always the chance of spotting the elusive otter. Watch
the fish eagles soar against the majestic Langeberg
Mountains, the Kingfishers hover above the water before
diving in for a meal or the friendly African Darters
open their wings as you float pass them.
The river is gentle enough for first timers, with enough
small rapids to make it exciting. This is an unforgettable
experience for the whole family. So if you have driven
the scenic Route 62 and enjoyed it, then why don't you
try and paddle it.
The company operates 7 days a week, (subject to availability),
with a minimum of 2 people. All the guides are experienced
and qualified with APA (African Paddling Association)
and have a qualified First Aid training and PDP.
