Montagu is a charming,
historic village nestled between two mountain ranges,
halfway between Cape Town and the Garden Route, and
lies in the heart of the legendary Route 62. With crystal
clear air, beautiful mountains, a superb climate and
plenty to do, it is the ideal breakaway spot from city
living. Summer is warm and dry with carefree days and
plenty of fruit to eat. Autumn brings a kaleidoscope
of stunning colours and in winter the days are mild
and sunny with the occasional rainfall.

Outdoor and
adventure
The "Mountain Mecca" of the Western Cape offers
various activities - some of the best rock-climbing
in the world, mountain biking, 4x4-ing, hiking, kloofing
and gravity biking to name a few.
The Montagu Tractor
Trips to the summit of the Langeberg Mountains is a
must, with spectacular views of the surrounding valleys
and the optional potjie lunch afterwards is a culinary

The famous hot springs,
close to Rainbow Glen, are perfect for relaxing and
there are also numerous sporting activities on offer
in the area (such as fishing, golfing, tennis, bowls,
squash and pistol shooting) as well as the Big Five
- situated a mere 42km out of town.
Art, wine and
history
The many award-winning wines from Montagu are well known
throughout the world for their sugary sweetness and
balmy bouquet. There is a wonderful arts and crafts
route which winds through Montagu, showcasing the talents
of the town residents. There are many historical monuments
on Long Street and wide range of architecture with speaks
much of Montagu's rich history.
Day trips into the areas
surrounding Montagu can be enjoyed and this shows the
diverse plant growth which is indigenous to the Klein
Karoo.
The heart of
Route 62
Route 62 is the tourist route that meanders between
Cape Town and Oudtshoorn, the Garden Route and Port
Elizabeth, offering the shorter, scenic alternative
to the N2 highway. The 5 towns of Montagu, McGregor,
Ashton, Robertson and Bonnievale make up The Heart of
Route 62.
It is an area of magnificent
landscapes and towering cliffs, crystal clear streams
and an abundance of fauna and flora. The everchanging
colours of the majestic mountains, scenic passes, rivers,
vineyards and orchards makes this route an unforgettable
